RESULTS:

SATURDAY, 16 JANUARY, 2010

Singles - Final
M Baghdatis (CYP) d R Gasquet (FRA) 64 76(2)

Doubles - Final
[1] D Nestor (CAN) / N Zimonjic (SRB) d R Hutchins (GBR) / J Kerr (AUS) 63 76(5)

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Baghdatis: “It's confidence building. I felt pretty good on court. I have some things to work on still. I have tomorrow and Monday to work on my serve, [my] first serve percentage. It's the only thing that worries me a bit. But if I stay focused and find the way to win the first two, three matches, then I could be very dangerous and confident.

“I have great support here. People are very friendly and very nice. I like the cities here, Brisbane, Sydney [and] Melbourne. Every time I come I'm happy and playing great tennis. It's just great.

“It's my brother's birthday, and I wanted to win for him also. It's been two years tough for him. So I'm very happy that I won today and can dedicate this win to him.”
On donating $5,000 to the World Vision Australia Haiti Earthquake Appeal: “The situation in Haiti is really, really sad. I have seen the pictures on the news and it is just horrific. I want to send my condolences to everyone affected by the earthquake."

Gasquet: “I'm disappointed, because it's always difficult to lose a final. The first set he played better than me from the baseline. I was a little bit too far from the baseline. After, in the second set, I was leading 5-2. [At] 5-3 I served a bad game, and I had a big trouble in the tie-break. I lost a lot of free points, so that made the difference. He played better than me. Even if I was really close in the second, I couldn't win it.
“For sure I feel confident for Australian Open, even if I have tough draw. But I'm ready.”
