The Heineken Open is the largest international sporting event in New Zealand, held in Auckland since 1956. Played in the week prior to the Australian Open, the ATP World Tour 250 event is a crucial stop in preparation for the year's first Grand Slam tournament. Juan Martin del Potro won the Auckland title in 2009, and went on to reach the Melbourne quater-finals for the first time.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Isner: "This is one of my favourite tournaments and I really wanted to come back here after last year [he reached the quarter-finals as a qualifier]. I thought I had a legitimate shot at being a contender here, but I knew it was going to be tough."
"You know, I would rather win that game [at 5-6] like I did than if I had won it to love. It gave me a lot of confidence to play pretty much a flawless tie-breaker.
On donating $5,000 to the Red Cross: "It was something I felt I could easily do and I plan on doing it in Australia as well. It makes you realise how lucky you are."
Clement: "Of course I am disappointed to lose in the final. But I think I played well during the entire week. I was in Sydney ready to play the qualifying. I was at dinner with (Sebastien) Grosjean when the tournament director called him to offer me a wild card. Since a few players pulled out last minute I got into the main draw here and decided to come too. I think it worked out pretty well.
"I played good matches, beat good players and today couldn’t beat Isner who played a great match. This is probably his first title of many to come. Overall I am very happy with my game. If I play like this all year long I think I have a chance to be back in the Top 20."
