After another glorious perfomance, Roger Federer took his first Grand Slam title as a father and 16th overall.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Roger Federer: “Coming here at the beginning of the year and playing so well, it's a beautiful feeling. I definitely had to play some of my best tennis tonight to come through. That was clearly the case.
“I always knew it was going to be a very intense match. I'm happy I was able to play so aggressively and patiently at the same time because that's what you have got to be against Murray.
“The next one (Grand Slam final) is not going to get any easier [for Murray]. But his game is so good that I'm convinced he will win one. And I thought he did really well tonight because conditions were tough. I think I played a great match. So someone's got to win, and I'm happy it was me.
“I really want to try to enjoy the end to my career because I've reached already so many goals I thought were never possible. I really want to just enjoy the tour, and that's what I'm doing at the moment. Obviously as a dad as well even more so.”

Andy Murray: “I don't feel great. I wanted to win the tournament. I think it was more the way the end of the match finished. Obviously it was a pretty emotional end to the match.
“Tonight's match was a lot closer than the one at Flushing Meadows. I had a chance at the beginning of the match, and I had chances at the end of the match.
“I worked really, really hard to try to do it and give myself the opportunity; so far it's not been good enough. But I'm sure one day it will be. When it comes, maybe because of the two losses, it will be even better.”

Womens Singles

World No. 1 Serena Williams has claimed her 12th Grand Slam title after beating Belgian Justine Henin in a compelling three-set Australian Open final at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday. The 28-year-old American extended her impressive run in Grand Slam finals, with the 6-4 3-6 6-2 win marking her 12th victory in 15 Slam deciders.
It’s the fifth singles title for the American in Melbourne, with Williams adding to her tournament wins in 2003, 2005, 2007 and last year.

Mens Doubles

Top-seeded American doubles combination Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have won their fourth Australian Open title in five years with a three-set victory over second seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.
The Bryan brothers completed the match 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 in one hour and 51 minutes at Rod Laver Arena in the early hours of Sunday morning.
In winning their eighth Grand Slam crown, the Bryan brothers also moved into clear second on the list of most doubles major titles. Australians Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, who were both inducted into Tennis Australia’s Hall of Fame during the week, hold the record of 11 titles.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Bob Bryan: “[Emulating Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde's record of 11 Grand Slam doubles titles together] is on our mind obviously. But it's a few Sundays away before we get to that point. The Woodies are our idols. To be considered in the same league with those guys is an honor itself. I imagine if we stay healthy, we might touch that mark. But if we do we definitely want to honour those guys for all they've done for us. Todd, when he retired, he's given us advice. They've been extremely nice to us when we were youngsters.
“It was a tough break [losing the second set]. Maybe in another final, a smaller tournament, that could have broken us. But when you play two weeks here and it's a Grand Slam final, you don't let anything get you down. I thought we stayed extremely positive. We put it all behind us. I thought actually our energy went up in the third. We kind of had out of body experiences in the third, kind of just got across the finish line somehow. It was great.”
Mike Bryan: “It felt today like there was a little bit less pressure. I thought maybe they were the favourites. Even though we were seeded No. 1, they had beaten us. We went in there a little looser. I think we felt the pressure in the past.
“It's a great city. We feel comfortable here. I mean, I think Andre [Agassi] called it the happy slam. Seems we're in a good mood coming down here, fresh from an off season. We like to get a jump to the year."

Womens Doubles

Serena and Venus Williams have successfully defended their Australian Open 2009 women’s doubles title by defeating No. 1 seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber in straight sets on Friday.
